I guess my blog posts about my ideal Tablet PC haven't gone unnoticed. At least one Tablet PC manufacturer is actively reading my blog. [You can probably guess that it's not my current Tablet PC manufacturer.] I just got off the phone with an excited representative from a well known computer manufacturer who called to let me know that, because of my blog, I've been selected to evaluate one of their new ultra-wide screen Tablet PCs. She promised me that it was perfect for Tablet PC mind-mapping and that I would be very happy with the display resolution and size.
I'm not at liberty to disclose the manufacturer yet, but I know you'll be surprised, as I was. The evaluation unit is supposed to arrive in the next day or two. I was disappointed, however, to learn that evaluation units are only offered for a few days at most. I'll do my best to do a quick review and, if I can get permission, post a photo or two before I have to ship back the unit. I can't wait! It sounds really neat.
I'll know in the next few days. The girls and I are going to post a 24-hour watch for the FedEx truck.
Meanwhile, I'm going to check out Marc's blog, Tablet PC Buzz, GottaBeMobile, and of course, JK on The Run to see if any of these guys have an inside scoop. They probably do. I wouldn't be surprised if any of these guys had already evaluated the unit that's being sent to me.
PS. I wonder if Marc Orchant had anything to do with this? Just last week, when I saw him, I told Marc that my dream Tablet PC (unlike Tracy Hooten's perfect Tablet PC) would have a very large high-resolution screen, suitable for ultimate mind-mapping. I even joked that I'd be happy with a 2.5" thick Tablet the size of a Tecra M4 with a fold-out screen twice the size of an M4. I hope this manufacturer gets it right.
I guess I'll find out, soon enough.

Well, I just got off the phone with my Dell rep, and she knew nothing about an upcoming Dell tablet. Not totally authoritative, but she was pretty good about pitching the other tablets (Motion and Toshiba) that they sell. So, I'm guessing it's not Dell...

Eric - I'm innocent on all counts. Have not heard anything from anyone about an ultra-wide screen Tablet (or even another wide screen besides the Gateway). I'll follow along with your reporting unless the mystery company wants to reach out to me and James and get some additional blog and podcast love. ;^)

What I want to know is if there's going to be a tablet screen comming out soon that compares with Sony's X-black, or the Truebright.
And am I wrong to want this?
