Lenovo X61: BOS to LAX on one battery!

Thursday, June 21st, 2007
I'm on board United flight 167 To Los Angeles with my Lenovo X61 Tablet PC. I neglected to charge my second battery so I decided to conduct an experiment to see if I could get coast to coast or ore Battery with only a few brief Breaks.

I classified over 400 E-mails using the stylus only. I'm running in power. stretch mode and I have 29 % Battery left. Amazing!

These seats are so tiny and so close that there's we way I could have used a laptop. Besides, the kid in the seat in fort of Me hasn't stopped Bouncing his seat.

I kept disk usage to a minimum, which I'm sure helped a lot. In the future, I will keep a charged spare battery, but it's nice to know I can make it, if needed.

I composed this post in Lotus Notes using the  TIP. I'm still setting used to printing neatly.

I'm finding that Notes, Vista, and this Tablet actually work quite well.

What a delightful Tablet experience.

Thank You. Lenovo.

Heh, what's your handwriting look like?

I thought mine was bad but it looks like you get more recognition errors than I do. :-)

What did you use for net access on the plane? All the ones I've been on (American mostly) the last year have forbidden wireless of any kind while the plane's flying.

Great news. Mine is on the way soon.

I am concerned about your double right-click dilemma. Did you resolve it?

Michael, my handwriting is not as good as my kindergarten teacher wife, who can write perfectly shaped letters in multiple lines on the chalk board - blindfolded.

The recognition was good but this kid in the seat in from of me kept bumping the tray table.

As for how I blogged from the plane, for the past 15+ years, I've been using this really cool technology for on-line/off-line work. It's called Lotus Notes. :-)

PS. Note that the post was made at 10:04 PM EST, however I messed up on entering the time offset so it shows as 7:04 PM. I was probably over Palm Springs, CA when I wrote it.

Hi Mike, no, I did not solve the double right click problem in Lotus Notes. heading to David Allen;s today, where I'll test this on a new laptop to try and see if this a local problem or something else.

I know what you mean with the battery life. I'm in college and I use my X61 for notes in lectures and especially in the lab (chem/biochem.) So far I can make it through an eight hour day with up to three hours of lab work and my PC usually has over 20% remaining by the end of the day.

I would definitely suggest this PC to any student, either current or returning, who is looking for a way to drop the notebook and convert to tablet.
